Cafe International in Helen

We were glad to see this place taking the precautions they can given the changes to restaurant service based on Kemp’s order. The tables are close together, but the host was trying to spread everyone out as much as possible given the volume. Our server, Courtney, was lovely. I offhandedly expressed my wish for a coozie and she went out of her way to find me one. The vegetarian and vegan options are fantastic, especially given the limited availability at most other places in town. You can tell the staff works together and is not one of those places where each section is an island. The hospitality was the first we’ve seen in town that matched our home in Savannah. Very sweet little place and glad we stopped by!

Best live music. Good, cheap beer

Food was good, service was good.Social distancing was non existent. Tables on top of each other, packed on the deck. Not a care about the rules at all.

I would go back. Plenty of outdoor seating with live entertainment. The Reuben was good and my boys enjoyed their burger and French Dip.

The restaurant is located on the river. You can watch the tubers float by as you eat. They sell sandwiches and German hot dogs. I had the knockwurst. It was good. It didn't taste like it was cooked in beer or anything like that. It was good. We had three adult lunch meals, two childrens meals and two appetizers. Our check was $97. Plus tip. The lady that served use was really on her toes. It was a family affair and a lot more of us. Thirteen people in all. She served all of us and did a great job. God bless.

was so disappointed, not what I remembered from years past. I couldn't wait for the hot potato salad, way to much vinegar. and if you can not sit outside on deck, DON'T sit inside.. have to be same booths and tables from 25 years ago and they are broken and torn. Might be better on a slower day but I am not local and haven't gotten to go back in 11 years and this was the one place I was really looking forward to... oh well.

We were here July 3, 2019 and had the best Reuben sandwich we’d ever had. Fast forward to 5/24/2020, Memorial Day weekend. The Reuben sandwiches we received were the worst Reubens we’d ever had. The Reubens were more like corned beef hash on bread. We spoke to the new owner who said he has not changed the recipe. We even had a picture of our sandwiches from the previous visit when the meat was still sliced. He says he sells 5000 Reubens a month. We won’t be back. Reubens aren’t meant to be eaten with a spoon.

Too bad have such a negative experience on such a lovely vacation. I wouldn’t recommend this place ever. The service and attitude all of it very poor owner and server alike. Where is the hospitality? I actually left without ordering but some of our friends stayed and wished they didn’t. Not giving my money to this place. No high chairs not ADA accessible. Porta potty‘s. UPDATE : Reading the response from someone at this restaurant I can see that they also have a problem with basic facts as I had to drag my child's stroller up and down 2-3 steps to get to my seat and bring him back down those steps on twice, so sorry but that is not ADA and you do not have a ramp. It's the seating thats right off your parking lot (incase you missed it) and no you did not have high chairs.

I previously mixed my review with another location directly across the river. These guys were awesome folks with great food and great beer. Thanks for a great time.

We enjoyed the relaxed setting overlooking the river and the tube riders. The server was very friendly (which isn't something we've experienced as much as you would expect in Helen). The food was good quality at a reasonable price. Overall a nice later afternoon lunch/early dinner.

Awful!!! Very poor menu and long wait for our drinks and food. The server and the manager are so rude. I do not recommend this place. There are so many other great restaurants in Helen.

Great service and great food. Waiter was very polite and didnt get bothered about any questions that were asked and she would check on the table made sure everything was well and kept her great service the whole time we were there till we left.

The food was amazing. Best Reuben we have ever had. The service was amazing super friendly and spent time talking with us about the town as it was our first time. Also get the pretzel and beer cheese so yummy. German beers were amazing too great place great owner

The Reuben sandwich I had was truly terrible as the meat tasted like minced cat food. The view was nice and the beer was good. So, if you go, maybe just think about grabbing a drink and enjoy what you see, but eat elsewhere.Update based on owner's response: folks, don't go to Helen to have a Reuben sandwich.

Food was decent, little disconcerting that none of the wait staff wore masks. Atmosphere was good and had a nice time. The pours were generous and pretzel was hot and delicious!

Food was not bad. Service is good. Real attentive. Couldn't agree more with another reviewer, it was definitely fun to watch tubers, especially those getting stuck. Lol 😅

Take note of who is leaving positive reviews here. This place is filled with rude staff who wants to throw racial comments about my family while sitting right across from us. Helen is a wonderful tourist town, filled with diversity. please do yourself and your family a favor and eat elsewhere. Not to mention the food is tasteless and overpriced. Looks like they buy frozen meat throw it on a plate with / prepackaged ruffle chips and charge you $11.

Good food, great view. We started with the chips & salsa. Wasn't fresh - maybe a jar? Still good. The wurst platter was AMAZING!! The kraut, the potato salad and the selection of meats can't be beat!Service was ok. Not great, but not terrible.

Best burgers I’ve ever tasted! The tea was good and there was really good views! I recommend coming here.

This place has great food and friendly people.

Delicious food. We had Lasagna, fish with mashed potatoes and vegetables, crab and shrimp salad and tortilla chips with salsa, cheese dip and Guacamole. All excellent. Wonderful Service. Our waitress, Jordan was very friendly and attentive. Excellent music outside.

Right on the river in downtown Helen. This was one of the only places my wife and I could find a vegetarian meal in town. Speedy service, friendly staff. We ordered the black bean burgers and splurged on some fries. Tasty.

The WORST place to eat in Helen. No customer service at all. No social distancing!

The staff were very friendly and knew the menu well. I traveled with a group of nearly 60 and they accommodated us like champs. I had the knotwurst and bratwurst plate and I was I pleasantly surprised by the sausages because I've been to Germany and it brought me back. I only wish that the outdoor seating had better shade in some spots. I would go back

We had the best afternoon! Hanging out watching it rain on the river, with good food, cold drinks and friendly service. We’ll be back soon!!

GREAT view and food is really good. We sat in a corner spot next to the river and had a great time looking at all the tubers (and rating their performances) Not everyone wanted German food so this place was a good compromise. Three of us had Brats, which were universally enjoyed and we split two appetizer pretzels between six of us, which worked well. Two others had club/stack sandwiches and I had a really reasonably good black bean burger. One of our party is allergic to dairy and therefore couldn't eat any of the bread (including the pretzel) so she had a burger with no bun. It wasn't fantastic but we didn't seem to have many good options for dairy-free in that immediate area.

I loved this particular stop on our trip. This restaurant had cuisine from several different countries, there are child friendly options, great views right on the creek, fast service, and a nice overall atmosphere. This is a MUST stop restaurant for quick and delicious food.

This place has an interesting menu, but my party and I sat for easily over an hour waiting for our food. Once we got it, everything on my plate was pretty gross, it tasted and felt like canned food that was boiled. Even the better parts of the dish were average quality at best, and for the price, definitely wasn't worth it.

Great place to spend some time with friends. I really liked the fact that they had vegan options plus I could take my dog with me. Our table was facing the river which added up to our experience there 🙌🏼 I recommend this place for anyone visiting Helen, GA

Worked here off and on for 25 years great owners for 32 years good food great veiw of the Chattahoochee

Lots of fun, dogs are welcome, long picnic-stlye tables with first come first seated. You can walk to the bar or wait to be served both are population dependent.The day we were there there was a good one man band/singer.

My experience at cafe international was amazing, every is super friendly all the way from kitchen staff, waiters/waitresses to the manager Hannah . Really fun place and I highly recommend stopping by for a quick beer or some good food.

Portions were huge, great location. River view was awesome.

The pastrami was just Bad rubbery lunch meat , they fry on a greasy grill. Sorry not worth the money.

The place is very friendly. They let us change where we were seating with no issue as we wanted to move into the sun. They have a smoking section as well if that is important to you. The food was good. I highly recommend the reuben sandwich. The waitress was very friendly and service was very fast.

Food was terrible. I usually don't like to leave bad reviews but the food was that bad.

Our last stop on our Oktoberfest bar crawl- great place! Had a fresh cold beers and split a delicious Rueben and chips! After we played cod hole in the parking lot- Ton of fun!

They’re lucky Helen is a wonderful town that can make up for their food and racist staff. Not only was I extremely disappointed in the food (college dorm food is better). They can’t handle parties over 10, and don’t be surprised if you overhear their staff making racial comments about your family. It’s honestly bold they didn’t have the decency to wait/ nor did the manager apologize after the waitress was confronted.

Seated quickly & by the water to watch the tubers float by. Friendly & courteous staff, our server checked on us regularly. Good hot & fresh pretzel for appetizer. Then had the prime rib sandwich which had a healthy portion of meat. Beer selection was good & cold!

Had the Rueben and Brat and Bred. The Rueben was really good. First time I had one with the meat shredded, which was nice. Lots of kraut. The brat was simple and good.

I visited on a beautiful Friday afternoon during the Oktoberfest season. The atmosphere on the Chattahoochee river was amazing and the beer/bratwurst was a perfect combination. The staff and service was great and the owner, Mervin, is extremely kind and helpful. Highly recommend if you're ever in Helen!

I was here an hour and a half for a Turkey sandwich. The waitress could not remember to bring out drinks and when she brought my ticket out it was the wrong ticket. After she corrected it she took my credit card and was gone another 25 minutes. I had to go find her to get it back so I could leave. And I ate in the dining room with 2 other people so it was not busy in there at all. I gave this place 2 stars because a guy came and brought me drinks who looked like a supervisor and the food was good.

We had a wonderful experience here. The food was amazing. The best open faced prime rib sandwich. So tender and tasted great. Ruben sandwich was also great. Our server was great, a real go getter.
